Our Biggest Video Yet: What 12,000 Views in a Week Told Us About Somali Demand for AI Education
One week after we uploaded a 13-hour, fully Somali-language Data Science & Machine Learning course to YouTube, it passed 12,000 views — the biggest video and course we've published on the channel so far. Here's what it was, and what we're doing about what it told us.
One week ago we uploaded a single video to the Goobo Labs YouTube channel: the entire June 2026 Data Science & Machine Learning Bootcamp — all eight core lessons and all seven bonus sessions — compiled into one continuous, fully Somali-language course. In under a week it passed 12,000 views. It's the biggest video, and the biggest course, we've published on the channel so far, and it told us something we weren't fully prepared for.
The Video
"Data Science and Machine Learning Full Course | Af Soomaali" went up on August 1, 2026. It runs just over 13 hours, entirely in Somali, and it's structured as one long, chaptered course rather than a series of separate uploads:

Why We Made a 13-Hour Course
Every bootcamp before this one lived as a live cohort first — a fixed start date, a Zoom schedule, and a playlist of individual lesson videos that made the most sense if you were following along week by week. That's great if you can join a live cohort. It's a real barrier if you can't.
So we took the full June 2026 curriculum — the core workflow and all seven bonus sessions — and cut it into a single, self-contained course with chapters, so someone with no cohort to join and no fixed schedule could still get the entire thing, start to finish, on their own time. We weren't expecting this response. It's the longest single video we've ever published, in a language that video platforms and tech education content have historically treated as an afterthought, with no advertising behind it — just a link shared with our own community.

What This Tells Us
The video didn't succeed because it was short or easy to commit to — it's the opposite. Thirteen hours is a serious ask, and it's entirely in Somali, covering material that most learners would otherwise only find explained in English. That combination working this well, this fast, tells us something specific: the appetite for data science and AI education among Somali speakers isn't a niche interest we have to talk people into. It's already there, waiting for content that doesn't force a choice between real technical depth and learning in your own language.
Every bootcamp we'd run before this one still required showing up to something — a cohort, a start date, an application window. This video required none of that, and the response was bigger than anything a scheduled cohort had produced. That gap is the real signal.
So What Changes Now
It changes our priorities directly. Over the last year we've run five programs — two more Data Science & Machine Learning cohorts, a Python foundations bootcamp, and a Git & GitHub bootcamp — each one built to close a specific gap the last one surfaced. This video surfaced a different kind of gap: not a missing topic, but a missing format. There are far more people ready to learn than there are seats in any single live cohort.
So the focus now shifts toward building more of exactly this — more complete courses, more bootcamps, and more curriculum, in Somali, released in formats that don't require anyone to wait for the next cohort to start. If 12,000 people found their way to a 13-hour video in under a week with no promotion behind it, the honest conclusion is that we've been building at a smaller scale than the demand actually calls for.
